Create A Touch Of The Sea

 I´ve been strugling making my sea urchins. Now that Fimo soft has turned into chewing gum I had to find a different way to make them (I´m about to change brand).

The hardest part was to get the sticky soft clay out of the mould. But now I tried another way - and I´m really happy with it. It may not be a new method to you. But to me it was something I haven´t thought about. So, I want to share it with you.

Make a sea urchin
Take a real sea urchin and make a mould out of it. Use a mold compound you can put in the oven. I use amazing moldputty. Roll the compound carefully on so the urchin don´t brake.

Mould: The mould on the left and the urchin of polymer clay after baking. Now it´s ready to be painted or what ever you like.
 
When the mould has hardened you carefully take out the real urchin. Now take your polymer clay and press it into the mould. I always make my urchins hollow.

Put the whole thing in the oven and bake for about 30 minutes. Cool it down before taking out the urchin.

Carefully take out the urchin from the mould and bake for another 30 minutes.

Cool down and your bead is ready to be painted or what ever you want.
