Not Afraid Of Colors

In Ireland they use colors on houses - and not the traditional white, red and brown. They use bright colors in a way that the streets looks like candy lanes. Oh, how I wish I could live in such a place where colors are a part of every day life.

The photo is taken in Kinsale a little fishing village in the south of Ireland this summer. This small village has a population of a little under 3.000 people. But during the summer time it increases substantially and the village is filled with tourists from all parts of the world. The place is known for its gourmet restaurants and I must say: This is the place to go if you are not on a diet. LOL!!

I enjoyed everything about staying there and wish to go back. Not only for the colors of their houses but also for the colors of the irish. They are the most loving people - do not take them selves seriously and always has a lot of humor.

I just wanted to share this photo with all the colors with you. Right now I have a lot of knitting projects that do not seem to get finished. Must be the dark and rainy weather....

Enjoy your day - and give it a little color. What ever that might be!!!
Another street in Kinsale.

  5. Thanks for sharing this colorful village! It reminds me of one of my favorite places, Burano, where they also use vibrant colors on their houses. In the past, since the houses are pretty much all the same shape & connected, the colors enabled fishermen returning home to know which cove to enter for their house.

  6. When I was 16, I did a paper about Ireland for my englisch exams at school, and wrote about the colourfull houses. My teacher did not believe me and said I was exaggerating about the colours! If only he could see this!

    1. Well, not even a teacher is always right!!!! I just discovered this: An annual Tidy Town competition in 1958 encouraged Irish towns to compete to see which could be the most colorful. Today bright colors are the norm. How cool is that??

I was surprised to see that she blogged about colorful towns just a day after you blogged about Kinsale.

  9. Hej Lone!
Kinsale is indeed bright and colourful, I'm not sure if it's for the fisherman's sake really, maybe more to do with the Tidy Towns competition, which is still going strong, and the fact that for a long time the Planning Authorities never thought of telling people what colours they could use on their houses. I think some planning authorities are now beginning to tell people building one-off houses out in the countryside what colours they may/may not paint their houses.
