Did the white color draw your attention first? What color takes takes most attention? |
Some will say that white is not even a color only absence of color. That means that you can't mix colors to create white. But, we refer to it as a color - how should we relate to it otherwise? Others say that white contains all the colors in the world - good luck mixing that. LOL!
It does not create any harmony and it reflects light in such a way that it can almost shine.
In stranded knitting a lot of people think that white creates a great contrast. But it doesn't. Instead I either use a dark color that I like and a light color of it. You can see an example on how it works here.
Or for really contrast I use complementary colors. See an example here. You can find the pattern for it here. But no rule without exception right?
This time I tried loads of colors for my new scarf. But ended up with white. I made the stripes in white much smaller to even out - but white do stand out anyway.
I think it works. I have even knitted another scarf in different colors, also with white stripes.
The scarf is a Martina Behm design and I love her simple yet striking designs that really is all about mathematics and garter stitch. She is a genius.
The photos are taken before the frost came. Not my cup of tea with under minus 10 degrees. I would rather drink tea and eat cake. LOL!
The scarf is knitted in Rauma Finull Pt2. Warm, nice and in fact quite colorful. At least it is a necessary this winter. Some bright white and a lot of hope is really what we need now. How do you use white in creating?
I think white is the most wonderful color of all,
because within it one can find every color of the rainbow

The white stripes are much smaller so they don't get too dominating. |
The colors are cheery. I can see a big slouchy sweater in that pattern.
ReplyDeleteI prefer ecru to white yarn because it feels warmer.
Thank you so much🥰 I would love that sweater too. Ecru is so great when mixing colors. Did that in polymer clay and it has great effect.
DeleteLovely. There is so much excitement in color. I think about colors sometimes! Your knitting is so perfect.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Debra🥰 It’s good to think about colors💜❤️
DeleteI love it Lone! But, I understand what you are saying! I never thought of white being that way! Did you have your tea and cake? LOL! Big Hugs!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much dear Stacy🥰 Yes I did. A lot of cake actually🙈🍰 Big hugs. Hope you are well🙏🥰💕
DeleteHappy you had your cake! LOL! Big Hugs!
DeleteThank you🍰 And even more after tjat🙈🙈🙈
ReplyDeleteLa deg klemme Lone. Mange varme hilsener. Viola
Tusen takk skjønne Viola🥰 Godt vi har farger å glede oss over. Nyt dagene og naturen. Og klem tilbake kjære blogvenn❤️❤️❤️
DeleteLovely photographs.
ReplyDeleteWhite can work so well, although I sometimes prefer a slightly more creamy colour.
Your scarf looks great and the red outfit is stunning.
Enjoy this last week of February, the month seems to be passing by very quickly.
All the best Jan
Tank you so much dear Jan🥰 Creamy is a great choice and not that dominant either. Take care and now that spring is just around the corner🌸
